Prairie PastTimes is a interesting, slightly different
concept for antiques and crafts sales. The Co-op concept
is designed to offer a main street store front for the talented
craftsperson, who might not otherwise be able to manage
an entire building individually.
Instead of booths or "closets", the shop itself
will line the perimeter of a substantial space (the old
Municipal Building, now Miss Emma's EMPORIUM) on Broadway in
Cottonwood Falls. Quality crafts will be artfully displayed
among the consigned antiques, in a "free-flow"
pattern. The "crafts" portion of the shop is
truly a "crafters' co-op" with the crafters serving
as "shopkeepers" on a rotating basis when the store
is open for business. Crafters will pay a small flat
monthly fee to participate, which will include store hang-tags
(required), bookkeeping, remittance of Sales Tax, and packaging
materials, and of course, rent. There is no additional percentage of
sales required. It is anticipated that the store will
open May 1, with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday hours until Memorial
Day weekend, whereupon the store will be open 6 days a week (Monday
excluded) until Christmas Eve, with late hours on Friday and
Saturday evenings.
The center of the space will be left vacant for use by the
Chase County Contra Dance Society, the Second Saturday Country
MarketPlace and Second Saturday Entertainment, our Victorian
Balls, as well as other Festivals and Special Entertainments
in Cottonwood Falls.
During gardening season, Prairie PastTimes will offer a "Gardeners'
Market" section, where local gardeners can bring in extra
harvest to consign for sale to shoppers, to ensure a continuous
fresh supply of fruits and vegetables in season.
Prairie PastTimes also offers a small meeting room for rent.
We can arrange for meals and snacks to be catered in.
The possibilities are limitless for this wonderful space in
beautiful downtown Cottonwood Falls. If you have an idea,
or if you are interested in being a part of Prairie PastTimes,
contact Sue Smith (620) 273-6020 or prairie-maid@sbcglobal.net .
We will always be looking to add a unique craft (and crafter)
to the mix.
