After years of setting in a state of near ruin, restoration of the Historic Bridge over the Cottonwood River was recently completed by the city of Cottonwood Falls. The earth filled arch bridge was built to replace the original bridge just to the west and served until a new bridge was built on the relocated highway 177 several hundred feet to the east.

The bridge is open to foot and bicycle traffic only and is an important part of a trail that, when completed, runs from Cottonwood Falls on the south to the Tallgrass National Park on the north. With the opening of the bridge the current trail reaches Strong City where they are replacing sidewalks. The new sidewalk is nearing the downtown area of Strong City.

The bridge has been the site of several concerts and promises to be the site of many more community activities.
