Twin Cities Lions Club complete
fund raising project for new playground at Swope Park.
June 14, 2008 ~ When mayor Dan Riggs was invited to
a meeting of the Twin Cities Lions Club to suggest some ways
the club could help the city, little did he know his suggestions
would be adopted by the Lions in such a big way.
One of the things he said the city could use some
help with was the playground. It was in need of some repairs
and painting. Several years and over $100,000 later, the club
dedicated a brand new playground for the children of Chase County.
During the dedication, Lion Tom Bell asked Lion Jim
Redick for the microphone and told everyone, "This would
have never happened if it hadn't been for this man here."
He was referring to Redick, the chairman of the project and Lions
Club President.
During the course of over two years, the Lions raised
money with biscuit and gravy breakfasts at the Emma Chase Cafe,
selling puzzles donated by Cottonwood Valley Bank, arm twisting
for donations from everyone and several grants. See below for
